Collective hosting
I spent three hours yesterday migrating Debian machines to rebuild my Ghost blog, Baserow instance and Minetest server. I spend a lot of time worrying whether I should self host at all? And if so, whether to use Dokku, Dokploy, Coolify, Portainer? How could a Data Collective help us to prioritize and run community infrastructure together?
đ °ī¸âšī¸ In the spirit of collaborative innovation, envision a project that empowers individuals to navigate the complexities of self-hosting by creating a collective platform for community-driven infrastructure management. This initiative should address the common uncertainties around self-hosting by offering resources for comparison, decision-making, and support, allowing users to share experiences and best practices.
Explore how a decentralized network can prioritize and deploy shared hosting capabilities effectively, ensuring that every member's voice contributes to the decision-making process. Develop a transparent and user-friendly interface that simplifies the setup and maintenance of community projects such as blogs, databases, and game servers, allowing participants to focus on creativity rather than technical hurdles.
Encourage fairness and inclusivity by designing a voting mechanism for feature requests and hosting options, and consider integrating tutorials to boost collective knowledge. Ultimately, this project aims to foster a supportive environment where users feel confident in their hosting choices while building a resilient infrastructure that thrives on collaboration.
